About Counter Tested

Counter Tested is an independent product review site focused exclusively on home and kitchen gear. Every recommendation is based on hands-on testing — we buy products at retail price, use them in real kitchens, and publish honest rankings.

Meet the Tester

Jeremy Coleman is the founder and lead product tester at Counter Tested. Former restaurant line cook turned product tester. Has personally evaluated 200+ kitchen products using standardized testing protocols.

Jeremy started Counter Tested after years of frustration with affiliate sites that rank products without ever touching them. His background includes three years on a restaurant line, where he learned what separates a tool that lasts from one that fails mid-service. That hands-on experience shapes every review on this site.

Today, Jeremy tests every product category personally — from running 500-cut edge retention tests on knife sets to tracking non-stick coating degradation over six months of daily use. When a review says “we tested it,” it means he cooked with it.

Our Testing Process

We follow a standardized, category-specific testing protocol for every product we review. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  1. We buy it ourselves. No sponsored samples, no loaner units. Every product is purchased at full retail price from Amazon or directly from the manufacturer. This keeps our reviews unbiased.
  2. We design category-specific tests. Air fryers get a frozen fry crispness test and a noise measurement. Knife sets get a 500-cut edge retention test. Non-stick pans get a 6-month egg release degradation tracker. Each category has tests tailored to what actually matters for that product.
  3. We use products in real kitchens. Lab tests only tell part of the story. We cook real meals — weeknight dinners, Sunday batch-cooking, holiday baking — to see how products perform under normal conditions.
  4. We measure and document results. Our reviews include specific numbers: temperature variance across a pan's surface, decibel readings from blenders, edge retention percentages after hundreds of cuts. When we say one product outperforms another, we show the data.
  5. We update rankings as products change. Manufacturers revise products, prices fluctuate, and new competitors enter the market. We re-test and update our rankings regularly to keep recommendations current.

Editorial Standards

We maintain full editorial independence from the brands and retailers we cover. Our revenue comes from Amazon affiliate commissions — when you buy a product through one of our links, we earn a small percentage at no extra cost to you.

This business model means we only succeed when we recommend products people actually want to keep. A bad recommendation costs us more than it earns, because returns don't generate commissions and bad advice loses readers. Our incentives are aligned with yours: find the best product for the money.

What we will never do:

  • Accept payment or free products in exchange for positive reviews
  • Let affiliate commission rates influence which products we rank higher
  • Publish reviews for products we haven't personally tested
  • Hide the fact that we earn affiliate commissions
